City mourns death of Balramji Dass Tandon

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore and several leaders of political parties have expressed grief over the demise of Chhattisgarh Governor Balramji Dass Tandon.

Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore and  several leaders   of political parties  have expressed grief over the demise of Chhattisgarh Governor Balramji Dass Tandon.

In his condolence message, Badnore said Tandon was one of the founder members of the Jan Sangh. With the passing away of Tandon, the nation, especially Punjab, had lost a seasoned politician, a true statesman and above all a good human being. Punjab would always remember him for his great social and political work.

Badnore conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed to the Almighty to grant eternal peace to the departed soul. Member of Parliament Kirron Kher and former  union  ministers  Pawan Kumar Bansal and Harmohan Dhawan also expressed  grief over his death.

The last rites will be performed on August 16 at 1.30 pm at the cremation ground in Sector 25, Chandigarh.

In view of the demise of Tandon, August 16 will be observed as a mourning day by the UT Administration. A  meeting of BJP workers was held under the chairmanship of senior vice-president Raghubir Lal Arora at the party headquarters, “Kamlam”. The meeting was attended by all state office-bearers, district presidents and morcha presidents. Party’s organisational general secretary Dinesh Kumar was also present.

Wreaths laid on body

The body of Balramji Dass Tandon reached the city around 10.30 pm on Tuesday. Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki, Punjab Governor VP Singh Badnore, MP Kirron Kher and senior UT officials, including the Adviser, laid wreaths on the body.

No cultural ceremonies

There will be traditional observance of the country’s 72nd Independence Day  on  August 15 at the Raj Bhawan, but no cultural ceremonies will take place. The “At Home” functions at both the Punjab Raj Bhawan and the Haryana Raj Bhawan also stand cancelled.
