Contractual MC employees hold protest

Patiala, October 20

Contractual Class IV employees of the Patiala MC held a protest in front of the office of fire brigade near Sai market here on Saturday.

The employees, who were demanding to be shifted from contractual employees to daily wagers, said there were about 250 contractual workers, including cleanliness workers, security officials, sewerage workers and others.

The employees have been protesting over the matter for the past several days owing to which garbage has started piling up in various areas of the city.

A senior leader of the Bhartiya Valmiki Dharam Samaj said said the employees should also be informed about their general provident fund and should be given health insurance. 

Mayor Sanjeev Kumar Sharma later met the workers after which they called off their protest. He said they had decided to prepare a draft, which would be sent to the government for approval. — TNS
