Cricket meet for blind from today

CHANDIGARH: The National Cricket Tournament for Blind will be held at Panchkula from January 18 to 21. The championship will be played at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Sector 3, Panchkula.



Chandigarh: The National Cricket Tournament for Blind will be held at Panchkula from January 18 to 21. The championship will be played at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Sector 3, Panchkula. A total of eight teams -- Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Punjab, West Bengal, Odisha and Chandigarh -- will participate in the event. An 11-member team will include players of B1, B2 and B3 categories. The bowler will be only allowed to bowl underarm while the players of B3 categorises will play after being blindfolded. “We are trying to bring more and more teams. The association is making efforts to bring all the visually impaired people on a single platform to promote cricket. We are also looking forward to getting recognition from the Sports Ministry and the BCCI,” said international player Nirmal Kumar, who was at Institute For Blind, Sector 26, on Wednesday to meet the students of the school. 

Netball trials on January 19

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Netball Sports Promotion Association will organise trials to select sub-junior teams (boys and girls) for the 23rd sub-junior National Netball Championship to be held at Arra (Bihar) from January 30 to February 2. The trials will be held at Mount Carmel School, Sector 47, on January 19 at 2:30pm. Players born on or after April 1, 2002 will be eligible to appear in the trials. The team will be selected on the basis of performance in the coaching camp to be organised after the trials.—TNS
