Chandigarh, August 11

The two accused in the stalking case were interrogated for the second day today. UT SSP Eish Singhal was also present at the Sector 26 police station for close to three hours.

Vikas Barala, son of Haryana BJP president Subhash Barala, and his friend Ashish Kumar, were held on the night intervening August 4 and 5 for trying to block 29-year-old Varnika Kundu’s way with their SUV while she was heading home. The accused also chased her in the SUV before being nabbed by the police at the Housing Board light point. They were later released on bail since the offence they were booked for was bailable.

They were re-arrested on August 9 after the attempt-to-abduction charge was added to the FIR.

The security continued to be deployed at the police station for the third day today. Except complainants, nobody was allowed to enter the police station.

The road in front of the police station was barricaded, restricting the movement of vehicles.

The accused will be produced in the court on Saturday.
