Chandigarh, December 13

In a relief for city residents, the Chandigarh Electricity Department has proposed not to increase power rates for the next financial year.

Sources said in a tariff petition filed before the Joint Regulatory Electricity Regulatory (JERC) today for year 2019-20, the department had shown a surplus income of over Rs 18 crore.

This is for the first time that the department has not proposed any hike in electricity rates. Last year also, the department had proposed 20 per cent hike in electricity rates in the tariff petition, but the JERC approved 5 per cent to 10 per cent hike for various categories of consumers.
