Chandigarh, February 19

Four more snatching incidents were reported from the city today. Snatchers targeted two elderly women in the southern part of the city. Gold chains were snatched from a 75-year-old woman in Sector 45 and a 64-year-old woman in Sector 41. Two youths wearing helmets were involved in the incidents and police sources say the same accused may have been involved in both incidents.

In the first incident, 75-year-old Tej Rani was sitting outside her house when two youths walked up to her. They asked for directions to a place and snatched her chain and ran away. The police have registered a case and said there were no CCTV cameras nearby.

In the second case, 64-year-old Balbir Kaur was standing outside her house with her husband in Sector 41 overlooking renovation work. Around 12.30 pm, two youths on a black Pulsar motorcycle snatched her chain and fled from the spot. While the number of the motorcycle could not be noted down, the police have obtained the CCTV footage from the spot and are investigating the matter.

In another incident, three unidentified pedestrians thrashed a person and snatched his purse on the road separating Sector 44 and 45. The police are looking into the matter.

In yet another incident, a pedestrian fled after snatching a mobile phone from Hemraj near the Poultry Farm roundabout. The police reached the spot and the matter is under investigation at the Industrial Area police station
