Chandigarh, December 5

The Health Department is yet to receive sanction from the Union Government for additional workforce required to run the Civil Hospital in Sector 48.

To start the functioning of the hospital, four departments of the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, were shifted to the Civil Hospital recently.

The Civil Hospital has 100 beds, which have been equally divided among the inpatient departments of skin, psychiatry, ear, nose and throat, and radiation oncology shifted from the GMCH-32.

A senior health official said the proposal of nearly 250 posts, including doctors and paramedical staff, was pending with the Union Ministry of Finance. After getting approval from the Centre, they would start hiring the staff to make the hospital fully functional.

The construction of the hospital started in 2016 with an aim to provide basic medical facilities, including OPD for medicine, gynaecology, surgery and paediatrics, besides 24-hour emergency service, to residents of the adjoining southern sectors.
