CHANDIGARH:Haryana blanked top-seeded Delhi 3-0 to win the women’s UTT National Ranking (North Zone) Table Tennis Championship, which concluded at Sonepat today.

Haryana blanked top-seeded Delhi 3-0 to win the women’s UTT National Ranking (North Zone) Table Tennis Championship, which concluded at Sonepat today.

Sutirtha Mukherjee, Oishwarya Deb and Riti Shankar beat Vanshika Bhargava, Garima Goyal and Kritika Malik, respectively, to claim the title. In the first match, Sutirtha defeated Vanshika 11-4 12-10 11-8 to put Haryana in the lead. Oishwarya overcame a tough challenge from Garima 11-8 5-11 10-12 11-9 11-9. Riti beat Kritika 14-12 11-9 11-7 to seal a 3-0 title win for Haryana.

Earlier, Delhi outplayed Punjab 3-0 to reach the final and in the other semifinal, Haryana registered a 3-0 win against Rajasthan.Meanwhile, Haryana will take on Delhi in the men’s final on Monday. In their semifinal matches, Haryana defeated Rajasthan 3-0, while Delhi accounted for Punjab, by the same margin.

Delhi’s Utkarsh Gupta registered a comeback 9-11 11-6 9-11 11-7 11-9 win against Nikhil Kumar. Payas Jain got the second win for Delhi as he defeated Harnooor Singh 12-10 6-11 11-6 11-7. Aadarsh Om Chetri beat Kartik Dogra 11-5 11-8 9-11 11-5 to confirm Delhi’s way into the final. 

In the other semifinal, Haryana started with Jeet Chandra defeating Shubham Ojha 8-11 11-8 9-11 11-9 11-4.  Soumyajit Ghosh won the next match against Vivek Bhargava 11-7 11-13 11-8 11-6 and Sourav Saha sealed the win by defeating Anukram Jain 11-9 11-7 11-5. — TNS
