In a major relief to residents of Sector 21 the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) has decided to shift 126 jhuggi dwellers in Madrasi Colony to  Ashiana flats to carve out 25 plots of one kanal and 14 marla next month.

Various meetings between the Panchkula administration and the HSVP were held to discuss the issue that had been hanging fire for the past more than 20 years.

According to sources only those persons would be shifted to  Ashiana flats, who were found eligible in the survey conducted on September 2009. Jhuggis of those persons whose names did not appear in the survey conducted by the administration would be demolished.

Eligible persons would be shifted to 102 vacant  Ashiana flats located in Sector 20, 26, 28 and Abhaypur village in the Industrial Area, Phase I, the sources added.

According to officials 10 families would be shifted to Sector 26 while 38 families to Sector 28, besides another 48 families to Sector 20 flats.

It is pertinent to mention here that meetings between administration and HUDA were held at regular intervals as residents had been complaining about problems arising due to Madrasi Colony.

The HSVP had also conducted a survey about the market price of the land available with it after that the government agency had decided to shift the people from here.

According to information the HSVP had already prepared a list of vacant flats in  Ashiana. After shifting Madrasi Colony residents, who had been living here since 1998, demarcation of plots would be carried out.

The HSVP would get 8.5 acres in Madrasi Colony, located between Sector 21 and Maheshpur village, on which it would carve out 14 marla and one kanal plots, which would be put to auction after developing the area. Estate Officer Ashutosh Rajan said as per the HSVP plan the residents of Madrasi Colony would be shifted to  Ashiana flats in a month or so after the model code of conduct is not in effect.

After carving out one kanal and 14 marla plots these would be put to public auction, he added. It would benefit not only jhuggi dwellers in Madrasi Colony, but also the people, who would be able to participate in the auction, he said.
