Chandigarh,   November 18

You are lucky if you get a chance to park  your car in the Sector 18-C and D  markets due the space crunch. In case you park your vehicle on the roadside, the traffic  police would challan you. This has resulted in routine bickering and clashes over the issue.

RD  Aggarwal,  chairman, Market  Dealers’ Association, Sector  18-D, said  they were paying  each  and every tax  to the government but were getting a step-motherly treatment from the Municipal Corporation   and the Administration.

He said while the  market lacked space for expansion, the MC was  not  planning  for future  requirements. He said  there was  enough space for parking outside the market that could be used for parking.

Sanjay Puri, general secretary of the Market  Dealers’ Association, Sector 18-D,  said if the  UT allowed for the utilisation of the area, the problem of parking could be solved. He said they had taken up the matter with the authorities.

RP  Gupta, president of the Market Welfare  Association,  said sanitation was also a major problem. Toilets have not been properly maintained.

Sanjay  Bothra,  president,  Market  Welfare  Association, Sector 18-C,  said the problem of parking aggravated when there was a big function at Tagore Theatre. People hardly find any place to park their vehicles.

He said the condition of  public toilets was also not good as these lacked proper maintenance.
