Mobiles worth Rs 15 lakh stolen from Sec 27 store

CHANDIGARH: A theft was reported at a mobile store in the Sector 27 market here yesterday night.

A theft was reported at a mobile store in the Sector 27 market here yesterday night. Sources claimed that mobile phones worth Rs 15 lakh were stolen from the shop.

Thieves managed to enter the store after breaking open the locks of the shutter. The theft came to light in the morning when the owner reached the shop.

The police were informed about the incident, following which a team of the Sector 26 police station and the Central Forensic Science Laboratory reached the spot.

The police said CCTV cameras of the shop were closed, following which nothing could be recorded. Inspector Jaspal Bhullar, SHO, Sector 26 police station, said the complainant had not given any information about the number of mobile phones stolen or their cost.

A case has been registered and an investigation initiated. Sources said the police were scrutinising the footage of CCTV cameras installed outside shops in the market.

Store owner Anil Bansal claimed that the accused took away all costly smart phones and left behind cheaper phones.

Sources said the theft took place around 5 am today. Some eyewitnesses claimed that two men wearing turban were seen fleeing from the spot. The accused reportedly fled in a Fork Ikon car bearing the registration number of Punjab.

They said a few persons also tried to catch the accused. The store owner was then informed about the theft, who rushed to the spot.
