Mohali, January 27

Mohali Deputy Commissioner Gurpreet Kaur Sapra hoisted the Tricolour during the Republic Day function held at Government College, Phase 6, here yesterday.

After hoisting the National Flag, Sapra apprised the gathering of the achievements of the district administration and new pro-public schemes, being run by the state government. The DC also announced the administration’s plan of construction of top-class stadium for special sportspersons at Dayalpura village, falling in the Zirakpur MC limits.

Earlier, Sapra took salute from over 10 contingents of the Punjab Police, Punjab Women Police and NCC Cadets of various schools and colleges during the march past ceremony.

A cycle rally was also held to make people aware of fitness and good health. Mohali MLA Balbir Singh Sidhu was also present.

Freedom fighters’ kin hold protest

A mild protest staged by certain family members of freedom fighters from Mullanpur Garibdass marred the function’s proceedings at its fag end. While raising anti-state government slogans, the protesters alleged that they were ignored by the administration, which had invited them to honour on the occasion. “The police did not allow us to enter the main area, where we were intended to be honoured. We were harassed as no seating arrangements were made for us,” alleged the protesters. — TNS
