BJP drastically cut UT funds: Bansal

CHANDIGARH: The UT suffered its worst neglect under the five-year rule of the BJP government at the Centre, alleged Pawan Kumar Bansal, Congress Lok Sabha candidate from the city.

Chandigarh, April 13

The UT suffered its worst neglect under the five-year rule of the BJP government at the Centre, alleged Pawan Kumar Bansal, Congress Lok Sabha candidate from the city.

Addressing a gathering at Sector 20 here today, he said while the annual plan size for the UT rose steeply during his successive terms as MP, touching Rs 839 crore during 2013-14, the BJP-led NDA government drastically cut it to Rs 623 crore for the year 2014-15. He claimed that the local BJP leadership and MP Kirron Kher were unaware of the plan funds having been cut.

The former MP said the Congress had chalked out a plan to introduce metro. A detailed project report was prepared and locations were identified for metro stations. But for strange reasons, after initially supporting the project, the local BJP MP later got it shelved without providing an alternative. — TNS
