Now, election panel issues notice to Cong candidate

CHANDIGARH: After BJP’s Kirron Kher and BSP’s Parveen Tank, the Election Commission has served a show-cause notice on Congress candidate Pawan Kumar Bansal for an alleged violation of the code of conduct.

Chandigarh, May 14

After BJP’s Kirron Kher and BSP’s Parveen Tank, the Election Commission has served a show-cause notice on Congress candidate Pawan Kumar Bansal for an alleged violation of the code of conduct.

The notice was issued after BJP leaders filed a complaint about use of children in the Congress election campaign. As per the complaint, the BJP leaders found some children carrying Congress flags with Bansal’s picture at Ram Darbar. In the notice, the EC quoted the order of the NCPCR that no political party can use children for election campaigning in any form.

The EC has asked Bansal to file a reply to the notice within 24 hours as to why action should not be taken against him for the alleged violation of the election code. In another complaint filed against Bansal, which is related to NYAY pamphlets, the Returning Officer today directed the Nodal Officer, Expenditure Cell, to record the expense of printing of pamphlets as the same has been printed in the city. — TNS

PU warned

Not satisfied with its reply, the Election Commission has issued a warning to Panjab University (PU) to ensure no violation of poll code takes place at seminars or conferences organised on its premises. The commission also ordered inclusion of expenditure in the poll expense of BJP candidate Kirron Kher. The Election Commission had issued a notice to the university on a complaint filed by the Congress. TNS
