Delivering a lecture on ‘Universality of Guru Nanak’s Philosophy’ on Thursday, Global Thinker awardee Dr Swaraj Singh propounded “oneness” as central theme of Guru Nanak’s philosophy at the Department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies, Panjab University.

He said, “It (oneness) lays the foundation for the unity of mankind. Capitalism has reversed the essence of human experience. Ethics are above economics and lay the foundation of society.”

He said, “Nanak’s philosophy restores the supremacy of ethics above economics. It reveals that Nirgun (transcendent reality) and Sargun (manifest reality) aren’t two separate realties, but the two aspects of the same reality. This principle also lays the foundation of Guru Nanak’s concept of unity in diversity.”

While talking about gender diversity as part of natural diversity, he said women and men complemented each other and together formed one complete unit. “Guru Nanak’s concept of an all-inclusive brotherhood is relevant even today. Nanak’s philosophy imparts ethical aspect and a global perspective to the present-day globalisation,” he said.
