Panchayats in Kharar tehsil call for end to drug menace

MOHALI: Representatives of a number of panchayats of the Kharar tehsil area have asked the district authorities to stop the sale of narcotics in the area to save the youth from ruin and also ensure punishment to the offenders.

Representatives of a number of panchayats of the Kharar tehsil area have asked the district authorities to stop the sale of narcotics in the area to save the youth from ruin and also ensure punishment to the offenders.

Representatives of the Baraudi panchayat have written to the SSP that smack is being sold in the village openly. Residents have been opposing the activities of the peddlers for a long time. Sometimes, the offenders are handed over to the police, but are released later without any action against them.

The panchayat representatives sought a probe into the matter by an honest and courageous officer and punishment for the guilty.

The complaint to the SSP was signed by representatives of a number of panchayats, including those of Jhandemajra, Nangal Garia, Shekupura, Khairpur, Nanehrian, Kanoura, Wazidpur, Fatehgarh, Shahpur, Jhingran Kalan, Dhakora Kalan, Mianpur Changar, Khizrabad, Kubaheri, Abhipur, Salempur Kalan, Jakhar Majra, Sohali, Takkipur and Sialba.
