Property tax: Pay Rs 76 lakh, MC asks Kendriya Sadan

CHANDIGARH: Continuing with its drive against property tax defaulters, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has served notices on 10 more major defaulters asking them to pay arrears of over Rs 7 crore.

Continuing with its drive against property tax defaulters, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has served notices on 10 more major defaulters asking them to pay arrears of over Rs 7 crore.

Sources said the MC had issued a notice to Kendriya Sadan for depositing an amount of over Rs 76 lakh. Kendiya Sadan, situated in Sector 9, houses offices of the Central Government. Notices have also been issued to the Chandigarh Market Committee for depositing Rs 34 lakh. The other companies and institutions which have issued notices include British School (Rs 13,68,462), Sabhrwal Gas Agency (Rs 2,56,950), Director of Industries and Commerce, Haryana (Rs 5,12,874), Director of Industries and Commerce, Punjab (Rs 14,45,531), Dargaon Gas Agencies (Rs 1,52,289), Parnam Gas Agencies (Rs 2,22,398) and Arunita Gas Agencies (Rs 3,45,912)

On the directions of Commissioner KK Yadav, the MC has started a drive to recover the amount from defaulters.

Last week, the MC had issued notices to the Golf Club, Sector 6, Chandigarh, asking it to deposit Rs 5,46,19,604 and the Lake Club, Sector 5, Chandigarh, asking it to pay Rs 63,77,645.

The sources said the MC action had started yielded positive results and many deafulters had started paying the amount.

The sources said the MC had prepared a list over 100 such defaulters who would be served notices this fiscal.
