Chandigarh, February 18

Dr Kewal Krishan, Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Anthropology, Panjab University, will be presenting a research paper at the 70th Annual Scientific Conference of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS) to be held at Seattle, Washington, US, from February 19 to February 24.

The research entitled “Implications of canine width, inter-canine distance and facial dimensions in forensic identification” was conducted jointly by Dr Krishan and his student Vaibhavi Sharma in the Department of Anthropology. The American Academy of Forensic Sciences is one of the largest academies in the forensic discipline where Krishan will be presenting his research paper pertaining to the relationship of the dental size and some facial dimensions.

The relationship will be useful in reconstruction of the face from the dental remains in mass disasters. In some high-impact mass disasters such as bomb blasts, terrorist attacks, tsunamis, earthquakes, only dental remains are available for identification purposes. In such situations, prediction of facial contours and facial size can be estimated using regression equations which may help in the reconstruction of the face of the deceased.

Dr Krishan is a renowned forensic anthropologist and has published more than 153 papers in reputed journals of forensic sciences and anthropology and has over 2,230 citations of his research. He contributed many invited chapters to the most coveted encyclopaedias of forensic sciences published by Elsevier in the US and the UK.
