Patiala, April 15

The Punjab Sikh Council has levelled allegations of misuse of power and hiring of close relatives in the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) by Kirpal Singh Badungar during his tenure as its president.

Members of the council also burnt an effigy of Badungar in the city today. They said he acted like a ‘masand’ and siphoned off money from the SGPC coffers.

The council president, Mohan Singh Kartarpur, said, “Kirpal Singh Badungar hired 523 employees during his tenure as the SGPC president. Of these, 50 are his close relatives. We have a list of 15 such people. Most of these people do not even fulfil the requisite qualifications.”

When contacted, Kirpal Singh Badungar said, “The case is in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. I can’t comment on it.”
