The Punjabi University held an alumni meet at the Kala Bhawan here on Wednesday. On the demands of various alumni, the university has decided to build an alumni house on the campus to promote activities of the Alumni Association.

Officials said the university organised the meet to introduce students with former students of the university. Vice-Chancellor BS Ghuman said: “The university is aiming to generate employment options for students with the help of its alumni. The alumni play an important role by sharing their experiences with young students and help generate employment and better education platforms for them.”

The university will make an alumni house on the campus, announcements regarding which were made during the meeting. Officials said the university would provide land for the alumni house on the campus, funds for the building of which will be provided by the alumni themselves.

Dean, Alumni Association, Prof Gurnam Singh; Dean, Students, Dr Amritpal Kaur; and family of Dr Paramvir Singh donated Rs 1 lakh each for the house. The Vice-Chancellor called upon the alumni to help promote the cause of enhancing university’s ranking in the country and its prestige across the globe.

Prof Gurnam said 47 chapters of the association, including three in the US and one in Canada have been formed with the help of the alumni.

He said the university teachers should prepare projects in their academic departments. “The alumni of our university will provide us all possible help with the projects.”

Former chief secretary, Punjab, Dr Darbara Singh Guru, said the university had been instrumental in imparting education to students in the region. He said it was high time they contribute towards the university in any means.
