Chandigarh: The police have arrested two youths for robbing a Dadu Majra Colony resident after attacking him with a sharp weapon and a stick on Friday night.



Chandigarh: The police have arrested two youths for robbing a Dadu Majra Colony resident after attacking him with a sharp weapon and a stick on Friday night. The suspects have been identified as Deepak Kumar and Ram Parkash of EWS Colony, Dhanas. The victim, Ravi Kumar (44) who works with On Dot Courier Company, was returning home on a bicycle when he was attacked near Sector 34. The youths snatched his phone and Rs 200 before fleeing. The victim had overheard an assailant’s name during the scuffle and reported the matter to the police. Officials on night duty in Sector 34 and 44 reacted promptly and caught the suspects. A case under Section 341, 397 and 34 of the IPC has been registered at the Sector 34 police station. TNS

Placement drive at MCM DAV

Chandigarh: The placement cell of MCM DAV College for Women invited a Fortune 500 professional services company – Genpact – for recruiting aspirants for the posts of process associate. Over 100 students registered for the placement drive. Genpact officials conducted the drive, which comprised group discussion, TX, VNA and managerial round. Making through tough competition, 62 students were finally selected by the company. Congratulating the selected students, college Principal, Dr Nisha Bhargava, said, “Some of the best companies visit MCM to handpick our students.”  TNS

Curriculum Workshop at PU

Chandigarh: The Department of English and Cultural Studies, Panjab University (PU), held a workshop on the recent revision in the postgraduate curriculum here today.In her inaugural address, the department chairperson, Prof Deepti Gupta, emphasised the need to engage with a competing global environment as the basis for these revisions. One of the major issues discussed today was how well the new curriculum could be implemented by the affiliated institutions. Towards the end of the workshop, there was a question-answer session wherein teachers from affiliated institutions posed queries regarding the implementation of changes. Prof Gupta concluded the workshop on a positive note saying that such changes were influential in changing the mindset of individuals.TNS

Three booked for murder bid

Zirakpur: The police here on Saturday booked three persons under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 34 of the IPC. The police said Manoj Kumar, a resident of Rishi Apartments, Zirakpur, in his complaint had alleged that when he returned home around 9.45 pm on Friday and moved out of a society lift, three suspects - Manish, Avtaar and an unidentified person, all residents of Rishi Apartment - assaulted him. He alleged that the suspects then asked him to open his flat where they again thrashed him and then pushed him from the balcony of his flat. The victim sustained injuries and he is under treatment at the PGI, said the police. OC

Free health camp held

Panchkula: A free health camp was organised by NGO Zenith Roots and Ojas Hospital in association with Jagrat Braman Sabha at Bhagwan Parshuram Bhawan in Sector 12A here on Saturday. A team of doctors, including Dr Deepti Singla, consultant-obstetrician and gynaecologist, and Dr Gurwinder Singh, physician, provided free consultation to people during the camp. Tests such as BP, blood sugar, ECG, weight and height were offered free of cost in the camp. TNS
