A woman was seriously injured after she was attacked with a hammer by a person, identified as Neeta, at her house in Sector 38 this morning.

The police received information at 8.14 am that a woman and her servant had been attacked by a person after which they rushed to the spot.

The victims have been identified as Neelam Pal Singh, who stays alone in her house, and her servant Parkash Bahadur. While Neelam was rushed to the hospital by her relatives, a PCR vehicle rushed to the spot and took Parkash to the GMSH, Sector 16.

The police said Parkash stated that Neeta, who owns Sunil Light House in Sector 23 and is known to Neelam, came there around 7.30 am.

Parkash stated that Neeta claimed that he had met with an accident near the Shahpur light point following which he left his scooter there.

The police said Neelam asked Parkash to bring Neeta’s scooter from the Shahpur light point. “Parkash went there. However, he could not find Neeta’s scooter and returned,” said the police.

On returning, Parkash saw Neeta hitting the victim with a hammer. Neeta then attacked Parkash and escaped from the spot. The suspect was chased by Parkash. However, he managed to escape from the spot.

The victim’s nephew, Vishal Abrol, said the suspect had come with an intention to eliminate his aunt. “He was wearing a helmet and had covered his face with a cloth to hide his identity,” he said. The victim suffered multiple injuries on her head and is battling for her life at the PGI. A case of attempt to murder has been registered at the Sector 39 police station. — TNS
