Chandigarh, August 21

A 26-year-old youth, who had 12 criminal cases against him, was stabbed to death by two miscreants at Bapu Dham Colony, Sector 26, on Monday night. Both accused, aged around 20, have been arrested in the case.

The victim, identified as Vikram, alias Vicky Rajasthani, had cases of theft, snatching, robbery and dacoity registered against him at various police stations in the city. He was out on bail.

The complainant, Parkash, a resident of Bapu Dham Colony, reported that he, along with the victim, Vicky, went to a temple around 11.30 pm when the accused, Lalit and Vishal, alias Moti, reached there.

Parkash alleged that the accused entered into an argument with Vicky following which Vishal hit Vicky on his head with an iron rod. The victim was then attacked with a trident (trishul) by Lalit.

The police said Vicky pulled out a knife which fell down during the scuffle. “Lalit picked up the knife and attacked the victim again, leaving him seriously injured,” said a police official.

The accused fled the spot after which the victim was rushed to the GMSH-16 where doctors declared him brought dead.

A case of murder was registered at the Sector 26 police station and later both accused were arrested. The police recovered the weapons used in the crime. The police said Vishal also had a theft case registered against him at the Sector 17 police station.

The accused were produced in a court, which remanded them in two-day police custody.

The victim, along with three other Burail jail inmates, had escaped from the District Courts, Sector 43, in 2015. The inmates, who were locked in the “bakshikhana”, went inside the toilet. They then broke the toilet window, climbed a water pipe to reach the fourth floor of the court and fled away.
