Youth held for impregnating 16-year-old

A youth from Dera Bassi has been arrested on the charge of impregnating a 16-year-old girl here on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old accused has been booked under relevant sections of the IPC and POCSO Act on the complaint of the victim’s mother.

The incident came to light on August 12 after the victim was taken to a hospital by her mother due to constant stomach ache. The girl was found out to be 11-week pregnant. The police said after counselling the girl, it came to the fore that the victim and the accused came in contact with each other through a social networking site and became friends. As per the sources, the accused had allegedly raped the victim. — OC
