New Delhi, January 11

Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal issued instructions to the Chief Secretary of the Delhi Government and Principal Secretary of Health Department to look into the issues of vacant posts in hospitals and other departments.

This has been said by the LG in a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal. This is in reference with the Chief Minister’s letter in which he had questioned the decision to hire retired personnel to fill vacant posts in the hospitals.

The vacancies in the government hospitals have been pending for a long time and he had already got an action plan prepared to fill these vacancies not only in the Health Department, but also in the entire Delhi Government, the LG said.

He further said the Health Department has informed that requisitions had already been sent to DSSSB and UPSC to fill the vacancies.

As far as vacancies of promotional posts are concerned, the department has been directed to hold all requisite Departmental Promotional Committee meetings by March end.

The proposal for engagement of retired employees against existing vacancies was moved by the Health and Family Welfare Department in pursuance of directions of the Chief Minister, in the meeting convened under his chairmanship in August last year. The minutes of that meeting were also issued by the Chief Minister office.

Therefore, it is surprising that now the Chief Minister has raised questions regarding the filling of vacant posts with retired personnel, the LG said.

He further stated that the engagement of retired personnel is purely an interim measure to meet the shortages.

Regular recruitment alone is a sustainable solution for provision of quality healthcare services to the residents.
