The government today decided to develop around 400 ghats across the city this year for offering Chhath Puja. Earlier, the numbers of Chhath ghats in 2014 were 69 which were increased to 208 in 2016.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Development Minister Gopal Rai to review the preparations for development of Chhath Puja ghats.

"An approximate 400 Chhath Puja ghats have been identified out of which 50 ghats are to be developed as permanent while the rest would be temporary arrangement," the government said in a statement.

The revenue department was directed to arrange for the tentage, lighting and fixing of CCTVs and security on all the ghats, while rest of the work will be done by the irrigation and flood control department.

An official said that during the meeting, Assembly constituency-wise list of Chhath ghats were presented before the attendees.

However, some MLAs and Councillors proposed additional ghats to be included in the list and it was directed by the minister that all public representatives will submit their list to irrigation and flood control department by tomorrow.

The statement also said that the development minister informed all the attendees that this year the festival of Chhath Puja will be celebrated in Delhi in a grand manner and the city administration will take all necessary steps to make this event "successful".
