Govt to run pilot project to check water loss in Capital

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal recently addressed a gathering at Neeti Bagh Club on the issue of water leakage prevention. He said the way people were migrating towards urban areas and the population was exploding, water was certainly to be a major challenge in the coming days.

A proposal was presented by Malviya Nagar MLA Somnath Bharti that he would form teams and go door-to-door in the entire Malviya Nagar to follow the model of water conservation of a noted water warrior and writer, Aabid Surti. It will be treated as a pilot project in the area.

According to the Surti model, they knock on the doors of people and appeal them to check whether there is any form of water leakage in the household from any source - either taps or tanks and in case of any leakages, those are fixed immediately by plumbers who are part of the team.

NITI Aayog has recently come out with a list of 21 cities which are going to face a major water crisis that included Delhi too. 

“I believe water is going to be a major challenge in the coming days, but I am of the view that the NITI Aayog report is a bit alarmist,” he said. 

“I am not commenting on other cities, but I can say with certainty that the kind of effective steps our government is taking with regards to water conservation in active cooperation with the people of Delhi, this city will not face any alarming situation on the water front,” he said, adding that “On the contrary, I can confidently say that in the coming four-five years, we will be able to provide the residents of Delhi with 24 hours water supply.” 

CM said, “After they came in power, only 58 per cent of Delhiites were getting piped water, rest were being supplied it through tankers, today within four and a half years, the number of people getting piped water has risen to 93 percent.
