25% crop loss in Faridabad

A report by the revenue department has pegged the damage to crops by the inclement weather up to 25 per cent in the district. Kulbir Singh Dhaka, District Revenue Officer (DRO), said that while the assessment was carried out in nearly all the villages, the maximum loss has been found in 17,000 acres (7500 hectares). Stating that the loss could be up to a maximum of 25 per cent in some of the pockets, he said it was mainly concentrated in Ballabgarh subdivision where crop in 14,000 acres was damaged. The rest of the affected area was in Faridabad subdivision, he added. The district has 35,000 hectares of agricultural land at present. The process of paying compensation was likely in April, claimed sources in the department. Satbir Singh Dagar, president of the Pargatisheel Kisan Manch and Vikas Chaudhary, a local INLD leader said that the compensation released will reveal the seriousness of the government towards the farmer’s plight.

CM directs DCs to pay relief by April 30
Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has directed Deputy Commissioners (DC) to ensure that every farmer gets compensation by April 30 for the damages due to the recent rain and hailstorm. He presided over a review meeting with DCs and Principal Secretaries of several departments at Haryana Niwas here Saturday evening. He directed the DCs and other officers to meet people from 11 am to noon every day in an open hall and not in their offices. They were told to ensure timely disposal of complaints received at the CM Window and review them regularly. — TNS
