35 sheep die of ‘food poisoning’ in Nagla Megha village of Karnal

KARNAL: More than 35 sheep of four farmers died under mysterious circumstances, while several are in a critical condition in Nagla Megha village on Wednesday

Karnal, December 30

More than 35 sheep of four farmers died under mysterious circumstances, while several are in a critical condition in Nagla Megha village on Wednesday

According to information, several sheep of Ramesh, Sanju, Rohtash and Jai Singh were lying unconscious this morning. After checking them, they found more than 35 sheep had died, while several were in a critical condition, said Jasmer, brother of Ramesh

He said they took the ailing and dead sheep to the Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (LUVAS), Uchani, to find the reason behind their death and illness

He alleged that the sheep grazed in the vicinity of a factory, which was near the village, and due to the toxic waste of the factory they fell ill resulting into their death

Dr RS Bisla, senior scientist-cum-in charge of the centre, said it seemed to be a case of food poisoning, adding that experts were examining the exact cause of their death. — TNS
