Security was strengthened in the town after two groups nearly came to blows over the tearing of a movie poster on the main market road yesterday.

While one group, followers of a “dera”, alleged that one of the members of another group tore the poster of the movie “Messenger of God” pasted in front of a shop, thus hurting their religious sentiments, the other group denied of having done it.

The Deputy Superintendent of Police, Payal, Varinderjit Singh Thind, reached the spot along with the police force and pacified both groups. Later in the evening, the “dera” followers met SSP, Khanna, Gurpreet Singh Gill to demand action against the other group.

DSP Thind said: “The situation is completely under control as both groups agreed to resolve the matter peacefully. Although, the matter had been resolved, security has been strengthened.”
