Shimla, October 3

Accusing the BJP of indulging in divisive politics, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said each time the BJP had tried to implicate him in false cases, he came out stronger as he had done no wrong. He was addressing a public meeting at Gawahi-Kalan in Shimla Rural constituency, represented by him.

“The cheap propaganda and petty tactics being played by the BJP will not last long as people of the state are well aware that it is under successive Congress regime that the state has witnessed overall development,’ he remarked.

He advised BJP leaders to accept the truth that the present Congress government had ensured all-round and speedy development of all areas of the state instead of indulging in character assassination.

Referring to the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA), he said the previous BJP government gave land worth crores to the sports body for building a five-star hotel and cricket stadium in Dharamsala.

“Land with hundreds of trees was shown as barren. They converted the HPCA from a society into a company with 25 relatives of the Dhumals as members,” he alleged.

He said the conversion of the HPCA from a society to a company was wrong as it had been registered under the Cooperative Act.

The CM said many milestones of development had been set in the Shimla Rural constituency during the present government’s regime. He said work on the Rs 105-crore lift water supply scheme was in progress, which would cater to the needs of 41 panchayats of Shimla Rural segment, including 12 of Basantpur block. He inaugurated several irrigation schemes and laid foundation stones of various projects.
