A day after a 22-year-old was stabbed to death in a crowded booth market in Maloya, the second accused, Vivek, has been arrested by the police in the case. The police are also probing the role of other suspects in the case.

The victim, Mukesh, was allegedly stabbed by Akash, son of a UT head constable, and Vivek. Mukesh was rushed to the PGI where he was declared brought dead.

Parvinder Singh, SP (City), said the second accused had been arrested in the case.

Sources said the police also questioned another youth, who had helped the accused flee from the spot in his car.

The SP said the role of the youth was under investigation and no case had been registered against him.

The police are also scrutinising the footage of the CCTV camera, which was installed at a nearby house.

The victim’s postmortem was conducted at Government Multi -Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, after which the body was handed over to the family members.

Akash, who was arrested yesterday, was produced in the court, which remanded him in three-day police custody.

Police officials said they were yet to recover the knife used to stab the victim.

Cops’ kin involved in crime in the past

This is not the first time a policeman’s son has been found involved in a crime. Earlier, Rajveer Singh, son of a UT constable, and Amitoz Singh, whose father was a Sub-Inspector in the Punjab Police and died two decades ago, was arrested for allegedly extorting money from school students.
