Ludhiana, March 28

Temples across the city were decorated to mark “Navratras”. Devotees today thronged temples to offer prayers and began nine-day fasting. The festival will culminate on Ram Navami (April 5).

The day also marked the beginning of New Year for many communities in the country.  A total of 108 lamps were lighted to mark the festival at Gita Mata Mandir at Vikas Nagar. A “Navratra thali” is being offered by eating joints of the city for those who are on fast. At some places, kitchens have come up where there is no use of non-vegetarian food.

Musical start to Navratras

Mandi Ahmedgarh: Singer Hamsar Hayat Nizami enthralled the audience with qawwalis and devotional songs at a jagran, organised by the Shri Lakshami Narayan Seva Dal, at the grain market to mark the beginning of Navratras. Legislator Amargarh Surjit Singh Dhiman was the chief guest. Councillor Ragni Tandon and former chief of the organisation Ravinder Puri also presided at the congregation. Appreciating the initiative taken by the organisers to highlight ideologies of various religions, they said no religion preached violence and hatred. OC
