CHANDIGARH: As many as 472 winners of The Tribune scrapbook competition, ‘Cognizance 2014’, were awarded prizes by the UT Home Secretary, Anurag Aggarwal, during a function held at the Panjab University’s Law Auditorium here today.

As many as 472 winners of The Tribune scrapbook competition, ‘Cognizance 2014’, were awarded prizes by the UT Home Secretary, Anurag Aggarwal, during a function held at the Panjab University’s Law Auditorium here today.

The competition was organised from November 15 to December 30, 2014, for students of classes V to X from Punjab Haryana and tricity.

To guide the students and parents on how to design a scrapbook, works of the winner students were exhibited at the venue of the function. Keeping future competitions in view, many parents and students visited the exhibition to acquaint themselves with the designing of scrapbooks and placement of articles and photographs.

While appreciating The Tribune’s initiative of motivating students to take part in a productive exercise, Home Secretary Anurag Aggarwal said through the competition, students got familiarised with current issues as well as the top personalities of the country. He said young ones’ creativity should be given wings at the early stage itself and the scrapbook competition was a step in that direction.

Krit Serai, Principal, Satluj Public School, Panchkula, Poonam Sharma, Principal, Ryan International School, Chandigarh, Manjeet Madra, Principal, Doon International School, Mohali, Tarsem Kaur Bains, Principal, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh, and Kavita Das, Principal, St. John’s High School, Chandigarh, assessed thousands of entries received for the competition to choose the best. They were felicitated by The Tribune for their contribution.

The function saw some impressive performances by students. Ganesh Vandana by students of Shishu Niketan Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh, acrobatic yoga by students of Tribune Model School, Chandigarh, solo song by Niharika of Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh, and solo dance by Bhanu Priya of Chitkara School were enjoyed by students and the guests alike. A dance item with ‘women empowerment’ as theme and a group song was performed by students of DC Model School, Panchkula.

A bhangra performance by students of Shishu Niketan Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh, forced the audience to tap their feet to the dhol beats.

National head, Sales (Circulation), Ameet Sharma and head, Sales (Circulation), Mukesh Kalkoti were present on the occasion. The event was compered by Purnima Prakash and Rajesh Ahuja. While Fenfuro was the main sponsor of the event, SignoraWare co-sponsored it.

The winners of the first prize were Diwakar of St. Solider International Convent School, Mohali (Class V), Piyush of Valley Public School, Panchkula (Class VI), Palak Garg of Delhi Public School, Chandigarh (Class VII), Mehak Kaur Bhatia of Sacred Heart Convent School, Ludhiana (Class VIII), Prakriti Vohra of DAV Senior Secondary School, Mohali (Class IX), and Triman Kaur of Delhi Public School, Chandigarh (Class X).

The students who received the second prize were Jashnpreet Kaur of Simran Model School, Mohali (Class V), Pramiti Kaur of Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh (Class VI), Pavni Goel of Carmel Convent School, Chandigarh (Class VII), Kanishka Wadera of St. Kabir Public School, Chandigarh (Class VIII), Jayata of Carmel Convent School, Chandigarh (Class IX), and Rashi Singh of CT Public School, Jalandhar (Class X).

Gurjap Singh of Shri Guru Harkrishan Public School, Amritsar (Class V), Tripat Jot Singh of DAV Public School, BRS Nagar, Ludhiana (Class VI), Palak Dhupar of Holy Mary School, Banur (Class VII), Divya Sharma of Edustar Adarsh Senior Secondary School, Morinda (Class VIII), Kanika Mittal of Manav Mangal School, Panchkula (Class IX), and Manik Malik of St. Xavier’s School, Chandigarh (Class X), bagged the third prize.

The fourth prize went to Jashndeep Singh of St Joseph’s Senior Secondary School, Jalandhar (Class V), Anushka Sharma of Little Flower Convent School, Panchkula (Class VI), Vanshika Sardana of AKSIPS-45, Chandigarh (Class VII), Manseerat of The Senior Study-II, Amritsar (Class VIII), Rahul of Government Senior Secondary School, Raipur Khurd, Chandigarh (Class IX), and Simran Gupta of DAV Public School, BRS Nagar, Ludhiana (Class X).
