Girls humble boys as toppers in Mohali

Girls outshone boys in this district as they grabbed the top positions in all four streams in the CBSE Class XII examinations, results of which were declared here today. 

Sylvia Mittal, a non-medical student of Anee’s School in Kharar, is the overall topper in Mohali district. She got 98 per cent marks. She is followed by Shreyjit Kaur, a medical student of St Soldier Paradise Senior Secondary School, Zirakpur, who got 96.4 per cent marks. 

Pratiksha Bhardwaj of British School, Sector 70, clinched the top position in humanities with 95.8 per cent marks whereas Bhavika Grover from Doon International Public School, Sector 69, stood first in commerce with 94.6 per cent marks. 

Shreyjit Kaur is daughter of Amarjit Kaur, the principal of Government Senior Secondary School, Phase 3B1. Elated Shreyjit said becoming a renowned scientist was her dream of life. “Research always attracts me and I want to become a top-class scientist. To realise my dream, I am devoting more than 10 hours to my studies daily. Television, internet/mobile chatting and other such things are not my cup of tea,” said Shreyjit Kaur. “My stress buster is going on a long walk,” she added. 

Commerce topper Bhavika, a resident of Rajpura, said she was expecting about 93 per cent marks. However, she had put in a lot of hard work and also took help of her mother, who is a commerce teacher. With the aim to become a bank manager, Bhavika commuted between Rajpura and Mohali to attend her school and followed a strict study schedule on reaching back home. 

Humanities topper Pratiksha Bhardwaj got 100 per cent marks in psychology. She said she did not expect such a good result, as she had not put in too much effort though she was regular at studies. She wants to do her postgraduation in psychology and later open a counselling centre. She laid stress on meditation and said it was an important part of her life.

Anne’s School produced the highest number of students with 90 per cent or above marks in different streams. As many as 17 students of the school secured 90 per cent or above in medical stream and two in non-medical stream. 

Six students each from Shivalik Public School, Phase VI, and Lawrence Public Senior Secondary School, Sector 51, and four students each from Doon International Public School and St Soldiers International Convent School, Phase VII, scored 90 per cent and above.
