Rohtak, March 26

The Haryana Government has finally provided the much-needed financial compensation to the family of BSF martyr Rai Singh, who was killed in shelling by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir on November 20, 2016.

Manish Grover, Haryana Minister of State for Cooperatives, Printing and Stationery and Urban Local Bodies, handed over a cheque for Rs 50 lakh to the martyr’s family at Kheri Sampla village in the district.

Since Rai Singh was the only earning member of his family, his mother, widow and children were in dire straits and forced to live on loans ever since his martyrdom. The plight of the martyr’s family was highlighted by the media.

Rai Singh’s brother, Bhoop Singh, said the state government had also announced that a park named after the martyr would be constructed and his statue installed there but no work had begun on that project.
