A 16-year-old boy reportedly shot at himself accidentally when he was taking a selfie with a pistol aimed at his forehead at his residence in Char Mohalla here today.

Amandeep Singh, a student of Class X of Guru Harkishen Public school, took out his father’s licensed .32 bore pistol and pointed it towards his forehead to click a selfie, but he instead pulled the trigger.

The bullet grazed his forehead, injuring him critically. Neighbours rushed Amandeep to a private hospital from where he was referred to DMC, Ludhiana.

Rakesh Kaushal, SSP, said they would register a case after a preliminary investigation. The boy’s father, Gurkirpal Singh, is a local property dealer. The police have recorded his statement.

The SSP said they would record the statement of the neighbours tomorrow. “We do not want to disturb the family as the victim is serious. We will talk to them tomorrow after which a case will be registered,” he said.
