Kangra, February 13

At a time when the state is grappling with the rising jaundice cases, 60 per cent residents in old Kangra are without sewage connections.

Irrigation and Public Health, Kangra Division, Executive Engineer KK Kapoor said the sewage system was complete in old Kangra area and those who fail to take these connections by February 20, their water connections would be disconnected. Official sources said as per the directions of the state government, their power connections, too, will be discontinued.

The IPH Department today issued direction to all its consumers whose water pipes were passing through drains in Kangra town to remove them by February 20 to prevent waterborne disease, lest their water connections will be disconnected.

Kappor said he has communicated to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate Kangra and Executive Officer Kangra Municipal Council to clear the stagnant water at different places in the town, particularly on Dharamsala road near Post office, to avoid any seepage into the IPH water pipes.

Residents of Old Kangra had been complaining against passing of the drinking water pipes along with the sewerage pipes and wanted to separate them. Kapoor said there was not even a single drinking pipe left which was passing along with seweage pipes and these needed to be separated.
