Ambala, December 17

Rajya Sabha member Kumari Selja has written a letter to Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, seeking early commencement of the Yamunanagar-Chandigarh rail link project approved by the union government way back in 2009.

The RS member stated that the state government was to bear half of the total cost of construction of the railway line along with the cost of land acquisition. Saying that a rail link between Yamunanagar and Chandigarh would prove to be a boon for residents of areas lying between the two stations, including Jagadhri, Naraingarh and Sadhoura, the state government should soon give a go-ahead to the acquisition of land, besides part with the 50 per cent of the cost of the project, Selja said.

The Chandigarh-Yamunanagar rail link project was approved in the Rail Budget, 2009. The Ambala Railway Division conducted a feasibility survey for the third time the same year. Similar surveys were earlier conducted in 1973 and 2002.

At present, the only rail link connecting Chandigarh with Yamunanagar is through Ambala.
