Make the experience count

So, you have secured that coveted seat in the B school of your dreams after much hardwork and going through the rigours of the application and selection process. This, no doubt, is the end of a long road as much as it is the beginning of an equally ardous journey — a journey that will take you to that swish corner office. The key, however, to your dream career and job lies in the manner in which you use your time during the course of completing your MBA degree. And we are not talking about the books and curriculum, presentations and case studies and internships and interface with guest  lecturers.

As an MBA student you need to soak in the ambience and the nitty gritties of business culture that will be all around you in people, opportunities and activities. We’ve listed out things that you should not be lax  about on campus d Take a dip:

1.Be original: The presentations and assignments are going to be a major overwhelming factor in the B school. And with a lot of info available on the internet and in past years’ files the temptation to take the easy way out is huge as the time is always short. But, never forget that being original and honest is the only way to make a mark as well as to score marks in this course. So, don’t sacrifice your originality even if you don’t feel that upbeat about your work.

2.Be diligent and stick to deadlines: You will be enocountering strict deadlines and there will be a heavy price to pay for any laxity in completing and submitting the assignments. So, stay away from the “cool and laid back” tag and work to earn the diligent and dependable worker tag.

3.Be ready to share and discuss: Communicating and communicating well is the foundation of success in any business and your B school days will give you ample opportunities to hone this skill. So, never ignore discussions and brain storming sessions.

4.Explore and learn: Students should not be complacent about different clubs, committees, teams formed on the campus. There is a lot to learn from these — something that course books won’t be able to teach. So join in as many of these as you can and explore new areas and avenues to develop an effective business persona.

5.Go beyond syllabus: Being up to date on the developments in the business world in general as well as in your specific domain is as important as completing your syllabus.
