Dehradun, October 16

Ship management company MMS Maritime-India (MMSI) will soon begin a recruitment drive in Uttarakhand.

The recruitment drive would be organised as MMSI’s parent company, Meiji Shipping Group, is expanding its tanker fleet.

Around 80-90 seafarers or merchant navy officers will be inducted from the state by December 31 at a lucrative salary. The officers recruited will either serve as captains or masters or chief engineers aboard fuel tankers. The officers will be subjected to various training modules through a series of workshops by MMSI before inducting them. The recruitment drive is expected to provide a fillip to the economy of the state.

MMSI CEO Dr Sanjay Bhavnani said he expected four new tankers to be delivered to Meiji this year. The ships are currently under construction at a Japanese shipyard.

“MMSI currently employs around 300 crew members and we are looking to recruit 80-90 seafarers from Dehradun to help man these four new ships. The positions we are seeking to fill will be across the full spectrum of roles from officers and masters to chief engineers. A number of senior positions will be filled from our existing workforce to ensure the ships have the right levels of experience and expertise,” Dr Bhavnani said.

Dehradun houses a sizeable chunk of highly skilled merchant navy workforce. Over the years, the merchant navy officers have contributed a lot to the economic growth of Uttarakhand.
