The concern expressed by the BJP over the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab in its core committee meeting yesterday has not gone down well with its alliance partner.

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today completely brushed aside any such concern raised by its ally saying barring some petty incidents of crime, everything was fine in the state.

On the sidelines of his Sangat Darshan at Talwan village here, he said: “Crime is everywhere. It is reported even in developed nations.”

“I take feedback on the law and order situation on a day-to-day basis. I have already issued instructions to the police authorities to ensure the security of people,” he said.

‘Mittal to take call on PTU Vice-Chancellor’

On two-year delay in the appointment of PTU VC, Badal said: “The matter pertains to a board formed with the recommendation of Technical Education Minister Madan Mohan Mittal. I have returned the file to them. The matter is between him and the board. Mittal can see it on merit. The entire board may have to be reconstituted.”

‘Canal work more important than trees’

On Punjab and Haryana High Court’s stay on NGT orders restraining Punjab from cutting trees, the CM said: “The work on the crucial canal project is likely to resume. This work that leads to food production is more important than trees. Trees can be planted elsewhere.”
