Chandigarh, April 28

The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has issued notices to 74 vehicle service stations in the city in violation of the Chandigarh Water Supply Bylaws (1st Amendment) — 2015.

As per the bylaws, it was made mandatory for all service stations to install shallow tubewells to save water. According to the bylaws, “All vehicle service stations will be required to install shallow tubewells on their premises at their own cost. Necessary permission will be sought from the MC.”

MC Superintending Engineer Sanjay Arora informed the MC General House today that in violation of the bylaws, they had issued notices to 74 such service stations that wash vehicles.

On this, MC Commissioner B Purushartha issued directions that if these service stations would not install shallow tubewells on their premises in the coming days, then their water supply should be cut immediately. TNS
