To popularise ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ programme and improve child sex ratio in Nurpur, the administration of Kangra district has decided to fund the education of 100 schoolgirls in collaboration with local social organisations.

Nurpur Sports Club, Punjab National Bank, Nurpur, and the BSNL employees have decided to provide financial help to 50, 20 and 12 girls respectively. The remaining girls would be mentored by different individuals. The mentors will shoulder the responsibility of their education besides counselling them.

The local administration recently organised ‘Muniya Di Dham’ programme here in which a large number of ‘mahila mandals’, anganwari workers, ASHA workers and elected women representatives of panchayati raj institutions took part. The programme was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner of Kangra.

The administration also gave gifts to the families of 50 newborns of the area. A community lunch (kangri dham) was also organised on the occasion.

In order to highlight achievements of six girls of the subdivision, 10 big hoardings carrying their pictures were installed at public places in Nurpur and Indora.

According to Abid Hussain, subdivisional magistrate, Nurpur, the administration had just undertaken the responsibility of educating 100 schoolgirls and would try to adopt 800 more girls in future. He said child sex ratio in Nurpur was 870, in Indora it was 875, whereas the figure was 898 in Kangra district.
