JAMMU: The Red Cross Society today opened the first Jan Aushadhi generic drug store in Jammu district at Government Medical College (GMC), Bakshi Nagar.

Jammu, December 22

The Red Cross Society today opened the first Jan Aushadhi generic drug store in Jammu district at Government Medical College (GMC), Bakshi Nagar. The shop was inaugurated by Red Cross Society general secretary Roma Wani.

Jan Aushadhi is a Union Government initiative, under which quality generic medicines are made available at affordable prices. In J&K, the Red Cross Society has been entrusted with the responsibility of implementing the scheme with the support of the state government under a tripartite memorandum of understanding with the Bureau of Pharma Public Sector undertakings of India (BPPI), Health Department.

While congratulating the people of Jammu on the occasion, Roma Wani said the scheme offers huge public benefits as the medicines are manufactured under strict quality control by public sector companies of the Union Government and the prices of medicines are about one forth of their branded equivalents.

Wani credited the success of the Jan Aushadhi in the state to team effort and thanked the administration of the GMC Hospital, especially the Principal, Dr Ghanshyam Dev Gupta, and the Medical Superintendent, Dr R Rattanpal, for their cooperation in making the facility available to the people who come to the hospital from all parts of the Jammu division.

While giving details of the status of the scheme, Wani said the Jan Aushadhi is one of the flagship projects of the Red Cross Society and three stores at Doda, Udhampur and Reasi districts are already functioning in the Jammu region.
