The Chandigarh Administration has approved an underpass to connect Sector 17 with Rose Garden. The new underpass will allow the visitors to go directly Rose Garden without crossing the Janmarg, which is one of the busiest roads of the city.

Sources said the Department of Engineering would soon issue the tender for the construction of the underpass, which is likely to cost Rs 8 crore.

The underpass is being constructed near the office of the Reserve bank of India. The underpass is a part of the rejuvenating plan of Sector 17 prepared by the consultant.

The plan has been prepared with an aim to developing Sector 17 as a hub of activities and City Centre where the residents of the city, nearby areas and tourists come and enjoy with numbers of the recreations activities. The plan covers landscaping, designing, transportation, parking, management, lighting and architecture conservation. Increasing the connectivity to Sector 17 from all corners and free and smooth facilities for the pedestrians are also part of the plan.

Meanwhile, the administration will soon start the beautification project of Sector 17 opposite the bus stand. The work of the urban park to come in approximately 8 acres between the bus stand and Sector 17 at a cost of Rs 8 crore will be allotted next week after the opening of the financial bid for the project. The park will be developed as the centre of different activities. An officer of the administration said cycle track and the footpath will also be constructed around the park.
