Amritsar, April 26

The construction of Gurdwara Sri Baoli Sahib in Odisha is on the cards.

The gurdwara in Puri, famous for the Hindu temple of Jagannath - was visited by First Sikh Master Guru Nanak Dev in 1509 during his eastern travels.

A delegation comprising executive member Surjit Singh Bhittewad, member Rajinder Singh Mehta and secretary Roop Singh had submitted their observation after visiting the site.

SGPC chief Kirpal Singh Badungar said the gurdwara would be built in the latest architectural design, a langar hall and sarai (inn). Apart from this, medical facilities too would be introduced.

On the basis of their report, a sub-committee was formed which included Odisha Sikh Representation Board chief Mahinder Singh, Bhai Himmat Singh Charitable Trust representatives Jagjit Singh and Satpal Singh.

The issue has been lingering on since 1978 and ultimately the Supreme Court directed the land to be handed over to Jagannath Mandir management. The SGPC got in touch with the mandir authorities who would lease the land to the SGPC.

“At present, this little less than an acre land has been encroached upon illegally and the site is in a very dilapidated condition. We are hiring architects to develop it and construct the historic gurdwara”, Roop Singh said.

Meanwhile, Baba Kashmir Singh Bhurewale said that Gurdwara Bara Sikh Sangat at Kolkata too will be renovated. The work started today after an ardas was performed.

Baba Kashmir Singh told that the exterior of the nine-story gurdwara would be renovated and it would now adorn a Khalsa tinge. Apart from this, the inn, langar and diwan hall too would be expanded. The staff accommodation too would be revamped,”he said.
