Dharamsala, August 31

Activists of the ABVP today carried out a march in Dharamsala to protest against the implementation of the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) in the state.

The protesting students alleged that the state government does not have enough infrastructure to implement RUSA. Many new colleges in the state were functioning from two rooms taken from primary schools.

In such a state, the implementation of RUSA that required teachers to hold exams under semester scheme and upload the results on the university software, was not possible. Due to it, students were suffering, they claimed.

The ABVP activists also carried out a protest march through the town and submitted a memorandum to the district authorities.

BJP supports students

State BJP president Satpal Singh Satti has come down heavily on the government warning it against ruining the future of thousands of students in the name of RUSA. He said the party would join the battle for justice.

“The new RUSA system has failed and the BJP on coming to power will scrap it,” Satti said. He added that Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh was responsible for the deteriorating quality of education.

He said more than 93 per cent students had failed, those who had passed were being denied admission to postgraduate courses outside the state and RUSA had failed to bring qualitative improvement in education.
