With policing in Punjab coming under fire from various quarters, Punjab's Home minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and Director General of Police Suresh Arora decided to conduct a surprise check on the night policing in the state.

The duo reportedly left here at 11 pm last night and conducted surprise checks on patrolling in cities and towns as well as in police posts and police stations to see if the requisite strength of force was working at night hours.

It is learnt that the duo first went to Fatehgarh Sahib, followed by Sirhind and then Rajpura, before finally ending their check at 2 am. Sources say that the night duty officers were found in all police stations/ police posts that they visited, though the station house officer( SHO) or the police post incharge was not present in two police posts.

Confirming this, DGP Suresh Arora said that the SHO is not supposed to be present in the police post at night, though the night duty in charge is supposed to be present. In all police stations/ posts we visited, the night duty incharges were present.
