60-yr-old man dies as hut catches fire

A 60-year-old man was burnt alive, when his thatched hut, in which he was living in Puna village of Sanoli Majara panchayat in Una district, caught fire last night.

A 60-year-old man was burnt alive, when his thatched hut, in which he was living in Puna village of Sanoli Majara panchayat in Una district, caught fire last night.

The deceased has been identified as Harnam Singh.

DSP Surinder Sharma said Harnam earned his living by plying a hand cart in Sanoli Majara. It was reported that the deceased had lighted fire in his dwelling before going to bed because of intense cold.

The victim probably got asphyxiated due to smoke and his bedding also caught fire. His charred body was found lying amid the ash and charcoal. The DSP said villagers noticed the incident at 6 am and informed the matter to the panchayat pradhan.
